What Do Our Children know About Love?

Children cannot be left out in the discuss of Love, as I think they even deserve more love, than any other group of people. The main focus is, how many of our adults have a proper understanding of love and what it really means? by so doing being examples to our children. We must celebrate love, not just romantic love, but love in and for all it stands for.

Parents, guardians, and adults must consciously teach and nurture children with proper and balanced love. They must be made to understand that love is more than feelings. Love is expressed, and they must be shown how to express it appropriately, and not just in words but in actions. For instance, God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son to die for our sins, THAT’S LOVE!

According to pastor Chris Ugoh, love is basically based on three forms; Sexual love, Friendship love and Agape love, this principle might apply more to marriage, but our kids must be taught these forms of love, at the right age and appropriately. They must, be most especially taught the Agape love (foundation of love). Agape love is God’s kind of love, you cannot sustain all other forms of love if you don’t understand and apply this love. Agape love is selfless, it’s spiritual, it’s forgiveness and it’s sacrificial (Rom. 5 v 4 – 5). Its a fact that religions of the world recognize that love goes beyond relationship between man and woman.

Our children must be taught that days like 14th February are meant to put them in the consciousness of showing love to their fellow children, and as adults; their partners, neighbours, friends, church members, co-workers, the less privileged and the physically challenged persons etc. They must endeavour to do this everyday. They must be shown how to express love in the family and to family members, because Family is the first social contact of every human and the family lays the foundation for character building.
Finally, God is love and love is God, if we teach our kids love from the stand point of God, the world will be a more peaceful place, devoid of war and social conflicts. PREACH LOVE! SHARE LOVE! SHOW LOVE!
